Found a great new blog dedicated to all things Tiki. Great posts and fab pics! They have a post on the new Jan & Dean’s Tiki Lounge above Ruby’s Diner at the Huntington Beach Pier in Endless Summer Quarterly magazine, but the pictures at The Pineappleman’s Tiki Blog really show it as a place to go. Sounds like a gas! I’m already planning a stop there next year when I (hopefully) visit San Diego for a golf weekend. I’ve just got to play The Crossings at Carlsbad again – it’s the most beautiful golf course I’ve ever played.
…evidently, Ruby’s has a Tiki Room in San Clemente that would be worth visiting as well.
There is also Frankie’s Tiki Room in Vegas, where I’ll be going this weekend. Not sure I’ll have time to check it out, but if I do, I will!
…speaking of Tikis, now that we have our new plantation shutters installed in our bedroom, I’m having one of Carmelo’s landscaping guys dig up the boring red yucca that’s just side the window (that you can’t see) and replace it with a big, beautiful three-trunk date palm that will really make that little area beside the pool deck pop. And once it’s planted I have my eye on a beautiful little Tiki statue that’s going to go next to it where a small cactus that never made it was recently dug up. The local nursery down the street sells the wares of a local guy who hand carves his own Tikis. I’ve got three of them already in the back, this will make it a lucky fourth. It’s going to make that little area go from hum-drum to wowee-zowee. Pics to follow.
Ugh. There’s just too much Christmas music on the radio – the classical music station I listen to while working is already mixing in the same Christmas music they play every year and I’m sick of it already. Maybe it’s time to turn it off and start listening to my Exotica music collection instead.
