Everyone who frequents this benign outpost in the blogsphere knows where my support lies as far as the 2016 presidential election goes, but, even here in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, it’s heartening to know that there are more people than me who support Donald Trump’s candidacy. I know it’s just anecdotal, but here are just a few things I’ve experienced:
1. A few months ago I’m at the Wu Loon Ming nursing a Sam Adams Boston Lager with CNN on the TV above the bar. The guy next to me asks me what I think of Trump and I say I’m for him 100% behind him. The guys whispers to me that if his wife knew he was for Trump he’d never hear the end of it. And one by one down the bar, every other guy says the same thing.
2. Last night I’m at the Casa Blanca Mexican restaurant down the street from the Wu. I’m just chit-chatting with the bartender and the guy next to me hears I’m from Arizona. He asks me what I think about Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and I say I’m all for him. He asks if I’m for Trump and I say, absolutely. He tells me he’s a union guy and even though his leadership is pushing Hillary Clinton’s candidacy there’s no one he knows that isn’t secretly voting for Trump. He tells me he thinks November is going to be a landslide for Trump and everyone is gonna be shocked. The guy is convinced Trump is going to win Massachusetts in November.
3. I’m getting a hot fudge sundae at Gary’s Ice Cream, just up the street from where my folks live. On the menu they’ve got an election between two ice cream offerings: “Trump Truffle” and “Hillary Hash”. The results to date: Trump: 710, Hillary 307.
Like I say, anecdotal. Right?
