I’m gonna see my shadow today, but that will only be to start cleaning the pool and our backyard trashed by the storm we had on Sunday night. Not much rain, but the wind was really something! In the meantime:
A good enough showing for Donald Trump in Iowa, he was always going to have trouble there with Ted Cruz and the evangelicals. But going forward I think Cruz will see some stiff head-winds. Now it’s on to New Hampshire where it will be interesting to see how the “establishment” Marco Rubio plays it with Cruz going forward. Also, it will be interesting to see if Trump either adjusts his message or his strategy since I’m not sure his going negative on Cruz helped him that much with Iowa caucus-goers.
A great article on three iconic albums of 1966. You take these three albums and add in the Beatles “Paperback Writer” / “Rain” and the Beach Boys “Good Vibrations”, and it’s no wonder most rock historians consider 1966 the last great year of truly innovative rock music. After that you had all excesses brought about by faux India-influenced copycats, psychedelic music, drug use, and Vietnam until Brian Wilson (Wild Honey) Dylan (Nashville Skyline), and the Beatles (Get Back) tried to reign it all in by bringing everything back to basics. But even then, it wasn’t until the punk rock explosion in 1977 that rock found a fresh voice. But even then, considering the technology of the times it would be hard to match 1966 in terms of innovation and quality.
I think replacing Yawkey Way with “Big Papi Way” sounds like a great idea to me. It’s not just the post-season heroics, but his off-field contributions and his post Boston Marathon comments turned him into more than that, a truly transcendent figure. Wouldn’t that be about the greatest gesture the Sox could ever do as a farewell gesture?
On the contrary, I think carpet bombing ISIS would make a powerful statement. Where are the George Pattons when you need them? It’s a damned good think we didn’t have generals like this clown during World War II or we’d still be there!
