My sister-in-law Tammy is still mourning the loss of the last of her “Beastie Boys”, Floppy, but we got to talking a couple of weeks ago and she braved up to the idea of adopting a couple of replacement rabbits. Sorta like, if the horse throws you the best thing to do to get over it is get back on and ride her ’til she bucks you again, right? We knew we wanted to replace her Beastie Boy lops with another pair of lops, so it only took me ten minutes to go to Craigslist Phoenix where I was pretty sure anyone who had lops to sell would advertise. And sure enough, no more than 30 minutes from us was a lady with two eight-week old lops to sell. So a week ago Saturday we headed out, checked them out, and Tam couldn’t resist their bunny cuteness. So welcome to the (Tammy) Richard household Bailey and Midget:
Bailey’s the brown one on the left, a boy, and he’s actually a bit larger than Midget, who’s a female. Right now there just a couple of cute beasts full of piss and vinegar who eat like wolves, drink like fishes, and tear around their living area on a nightly basis. In four weeks we’ll have Bailey neutered (sorry, pal!), and two weeks after that Midget will be spayed. Then we can really start to get an idea of what their personalities will be. Since their lops, and lops are just loving, gregarious beasts we needn’t worry – they’ll be the same kind of happy and loving rabbits Cookie and Floppy were, and a perfect addition to Tam’s furred and feathered family.
She still has Butterscotch, her adult rabbit, of course, and we’re not sure yet how that’s all gonna work out. The babies are too small for Butterscotch to comprehend what to do with them, but she doesn’t appear to really like them very much. Oh she was interested for the first couple of days; now she just spends most of her time inside her rabbit condo – sulking, I think. But she’s a big girl and she’ll ultimately get over it.
Had rabbits when I was a kid. They were strictly outdoors, though. If we ever get another pet, might have to try these.

They’re really cute, Rob – they’ll steal your heart. Lops are everyone’s favorite – mellow, a little dopey, and drop-dead cute. Lots of personality still emerging.
