It’s the Goodboys equivalent of someone finding a cardbox box in the cellar of Independence Hall containing scribblings from Benjamin Franklin or a discarded draft of Thomas Jefferson’s attempt at the Declaration of Independence. Seems “Cubby” Myerow was poking around his attic and found a box full of long-forgotten stuff. He found some fairly interesting things, like a will from a long-dead aunt leaving Cubby her entire fortune of $150,057.32 and an original Stan Musial card from 1942. But what really caught his attention was a picture of the Goodboys circa 1995 at Killington Golf Course:
Top row: “Cubby” Myerow, “The Great White Shank” Richard, “The Funny Guy” Andrusaitis, “Killer” Kowalski; Bottom row: “Gaylord” Perry, “Doc” Frechette, “Dandy” Drewett, and “Doggy Duval” McLaughlin.
What’s interesting about this photograph is not just that it’s a damned fine picture of some guys a heckuva lot younger looking than they are now (well, all except Cubby who hasn’t changed one bit (see below) – we’re gonna have to change his nickname to “Dorian Gray”) – but you have no less than six of the original eight “Founding Fathers” still fighting the good fight into the Goodboys Invitational’s fifth year.
(Ed. note: who were the other two “Founding Fathers” of Goodboys, you ask? History records “Lou Gorman” Clickner and “Wildman” Pellrine as the Lewis Morris and John Hart of their generation. Wherever they may be, their contributions to Goodboys lore are not forgotten by a long stretch.
It’s a really cool picture, not just because it’s great to see the Doc (may he rest in peace) looking so happy and healthy, but I see that even with beard and moustache I was already starting to go gray then, and we’re talking 18 years ago! More importantly, in terms of Goodboys memorabilia, there’s only one photo in our archives we know to be older, and that’s of same eight guys a year earlier at Mount Snow G.C prior to Goodboys 4, and it’s not nearly as clear and well-preserved. Cubby writes about his find:
Found it in a box with a lot of pictures. I remember taking this at Killington. They had a photographer on the mountain. It’s in a cardboard frame, it was like $5 or $10 bucks for the photo.
And just so you can see the dfference 18 years makes, here are the Goodboys in 2013. They certainly look like a happier bunch (or probably just not as hungover). Alas, “Gaylord” and “Dandy” have moved on to bigger and better things, but the four others still remain. Can you spot them?
Nice pics!

Best comment from Goodboy “Vegas” Clark:
“I think crew socks went out of fashion in 95 so it must be 94.
Or maybe it was clubs made out of wood?
So young and so innocent.”
Indeed.
