The first dust storm of the year blew in here last night at 10 PM on the dot. It was still 99 degrees at that time and I heard a gust of wind outside my office window. I walked outside on the back patio to see what was going on and it looked like London in a fog. What a miserable time of year. Phoenix hit heat records on both Saturday and Sunday, but it could have been worse. For some, a lot worse.
In one day LPGA golfer Jessica Korda fires her caddie mid-round and PGA golfer D.H. Lee flips the bird after a bad shot. This a week after Bubba Watson goes postal at his caddie for giving him the wrong yardage at The Travelers. They say there are a lot of head cases out on the professional tours, but jeepers that’s crazy stuff. I’m sure the same kind of stuff must have gone on back in the days of Arnie and Jack, and perhaps even before, but one would think after the gazillion balls these pros hit they’ve seen it all and know how to take responsibility for their own game and show a little professionalism.
…Which makes this story all the more impressive (my boldings):
Assistant club pro Michael Bembenick had a rough start in a Web.com Tour event, and then it got even worse. After making one last double bogey Friday in the United Leasing Championship, he signed for 103.
Bembencik, who works at Meridian Hills Country Club in Indianapolis, was named the Assistant Golf Professional of the Year in Indiana in 2012. This was his Web.com Tour debut, and it was memorable. He opened with an 89, and made 13 double bogeys, three triple bogeys and a quadruple bogey in 36 holes.
But he never quit. The 27-year-old told Golf Channel it was important to lead by example and show kids that no matter how bad it gets, it’s important to finish. Bembenick says none of the members at his club or students he teaches would want to see him quit.
Good for him.
Check this link out – awesome! Hard not see these pics and not think of one’s own universe as very, very small.
Look, I’m all for making sure a magician’s bunny rabbit is taken care of but this is ridiculous. Who comes up with these hare-brained schemes?
tragic news about the 19 elite firefighters battling the wildfires in Yarnell.

Yeah, the whole state is in mourning – incredibly tragic because those guys were part of the best of the best. Everyone’s heart goes out to the families and loved ones. My prayer candle flame had a little irony there when I offered them up in my prayers.
