…was supposed to start today, but a combination of 50 MPH winds and constant rain squalls forced cancellation of the first round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, even though a whole bunch of the field had already gotten off and running. To me that just shows how pampered these guys are. I played in constant 40 MPH winds with Tracey as my caddy at Las Vegas National back in May, and believe me, there were some gusts higher than that. Just about everyone intending to play that day cancelled, but it didn’t stop us. So excuse me if I offer a dissenting opinion about golfers complaining about playing in adverse conditions. Yes, I saw Carl Petterson’s putt planning on stopping a foot or two before the hole before the wind took it and blew it nearly off the green, but jeepers, play the freakin’ wind!
Of course, when you add rain into the equation I’m stepping off. There are few things in life worse than playing golf in the rain.
A few predictions for this year’s PGA Tour schedule:
Tiger Woods, Webb Simpson, and Keegan Bradley will be multiple winners but will not win a major.
As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, my picks for the Masters, U.S. Open, British Open, and PGA are as follows: Justin Rose, Bo Van Pelt, Adam Scott, and Rory McIlroy.
Phil Mickelson will have a great year and win at least one Tour event.
So will Dustin Johnson, Hunter Mahan, and Rickie Fowler.
Keegan Bradley will switch to a short putter before the end of the year.
Ian Poulter will be the best golfer not to win an event on the Tour this year.
Followed by Sergio Garcia. If there’s one guy I’m hoping breaks through to take a major, it’s Sergio.
