With the election and stuff going on at work it’s hard to believe the election was just three days ago. It seems like a month!
You know, after an election when a president earns a second term you start looking for signs as to whether it’s going to be a positive one or not. As someone who thinks they’re pretty good at reading auras, I believe in signs and portents. Just because I was wrong (like many others) that Barack Obama would be defeated, doesn’t mean I’ve been wrong in the faults and failures of his administration and what they mean for both him and the American people. I was the very first blogger I know to call him “Nixonian” back in 2009; little did I know his administration’s paranoia, arrogance, and incompetence would result in scandals far worse than anything Watergate was – people never died from White House wiretaps and burglaries.
Instead, we have a president with the blood of hundreds of Mexicans and four Americans who were left to die like dogs in Benghazi on September 11-12, and no slate of Woodwards and Bernsteins interested enough to follow up. This bodes very dangerously for America in the next four years. I mean, if dead Mexicans and Americans can’t be sufficiently roused out of their lovesick stupor with Barack Obama, what else will his adminsitration be able to get away with? After all, Obama himself promised the “most transparent administration in history”; the fact it has been anything but, and without any consequences whatsoever should be cause for alarm – even for those who voted and philosophically agree with the president.
But enough of that. What about the signs and portents. Another brief statement from Obama on the looming “fiscal cliff” without anything we haven’t heard countless times during the campaign. Unusually for a re-elected president, no news conference where the media can ask him questions. The head of CIA, David Patreus resigns suddenly due to “an extramarital affair”. In the coming weeks there will be more hearings on Benghazi and, undoubtedly, a ruling on the executive privilege invoked by the Obama White House over critical Fast and Furious documents the Attorney General was unwilling to turn over to Congress. My guess is Obama loses and we find out Eric Holder was knee-deep in the cover-up. You’re already starting to see numerous reports of significant layoffs due to the upcoming “sequestration” and Obamacare kicking in.
Bottom line: Just because Barack Obama won a second term doesn’t mean some slate is automatically swept clean; all the problems and incompetences of his first term don’t go away. He hasn’t even started his second term yet, and there are already signs and portents that things are not going to go any better than they did during his first term. And even his lapdogs in the media aren’t going to without fire much longer – after all, they have their own reputations to protect. If things continue to go south, and with no re-election effort to buttress up, don’t be surprised to see the media turn on Obama. He’s going to have to be very careful and start showing some leadership and concern as the layoffs increasingly mount.
I have a very bad feeling about the next four years. I hope I’m wrong, but I doubt it. After all, you can’t ignore signs and portents.
Have been in bed with the flu for the past two days so it has been constant tv viewing…I watched some news show last night and it noted that Romney lost in Michigan his home state, Mass where he was governor and Utah the home of Mormonism.
