With three more wins in his pocket after primary victories in DC, Maryland, and Wisconsin it’s pretty clear Mitt Romney will be the GOP nominee. Watched his victory speech and found interesting the changed optics – just the American flag behind him, no crowd of supporters like you saw at Rick Santorum’s speech. It’s a subtle hint that Romney is switching gears to trying out some new themes in preparation for the general election. While I liked his central theme of the Obama administration’s government-centered society and its war on business, I wish he’d find a way to connect with the average Joe.
For example, it would have been nice to hear him mention the concerns for the folks in Texas whose lives have been uprooted (in some cases , literally) by the violent tornadoes that hit the Dallas/Ft. Worth area earlier in the day. I mean, at some point, it can’t be just about Barack Obama, it needs to be about individuals everywhere with jobs, without jobs, with 401Ks, on fixed incomes with concerns about Social Security and Medicare, and how to get the country back on sound fiscal footing. If he makes the race solely about Barack Obama and not the people being crushed by the Obama administration’s bullying and regulatory overreach, he’s toast come November.
Yesterday, Barack Obama sent a not-so-subtle threat to the Supreme Court that they better uphold the constitutionality of Obamacare. Today he’s telling reporters how they should cover his stands on various issues. I’ll give him this: subtlety is not his way of playing politics. It’s really disgraceful and despicable behavior for a president, but I learned a long time ago he’s not interested in being president. He’s no different than some banana republic dictator wannabe. Were he to be reelected and the Democrats were to take control of both houses of Congress in November, he would be an incredibly dangerous individual to have in the White House; fortunately, that’s not going to happen.
