It’s been interesting to watch how our rabbits have acted since the loss of our bunny Geronimo two weeks ago. His mate Butterscotch is lonely, and she has done her best to try and ingratiate herself into the relationship that Cosmo and Peanut have to no avail.
Cosmo, being the laid-back male bun who could care less about anything else except getting his treats and breakfast in the morning and his bunny loves from Peanut at night, seems curious about Butterscotch but not beyond more than a casual interest. Peanut, on the other hand, hates Butterscotch with a passion – every time we’ve opened up Butterscotch’s area to allow her to get out and mingle, Peanut will attack Butterscotch, sometimes leaving the scrap with a mouthful of Butterscotch fur. Not that this is any kind of surprise to us – Peanut, having more than a little lionhead blood in her, is hardly the most sociable rabbit in the world – frankly, she’s a bitch!
Peanut has always been a piece of work. She’s a beautiful rabbit, but as long as we’ve had her, she barely tolerates us petting her, and she’d never, ever, allow us to groom or kiss her. She does love male buns, though – we know that because she loved having my sister-in-law’s male rabbits Sherman and Cookie (a.k.a., “The Beastie Boys”) around her when the opportunity arose to let them get to know one another. But her hatred of females knows no bounds – she hated Little Half Pint and Marble Jr. (two wonderful rabbits) and will hiss, spit, and bite any female that intrudes on her territory.
We feel bad for Butterscotch because, since she was born she’s always shared space with other rabbits. She’s very skittish around people, but she loves the company of other rabbits. We hope to have a male mate that we can “bunny speed date” with her in the next week or so. Stay tuned to this space, it ought to be interesting!

and the Cats get sent away…not all is lost, just this game.
And while you are out searching for a mate for Butterscotch…HOW ‘BOUT ONE FOR MOI????? Needs sense of humor, know better than to tell me what to do, have a job/pension/trust fund (preferred), must love cats and appreciate my “uniqueness” without question. Must have curious food palatte and be willing to try new cuisines. Cannot be messy or disorganized. That about does it.
