This is one of those times when I’m really glad I don’t live in New England, because otherwise I’d probably be listening to the sports talk radio and hearing jackass callers railing against Bill Belichick or Tom Brady, or Wes Welker for dropping that pass, or some other member of the Patriots, simply because they lost the Super Bowl. I mean, truth be told, they got a lot of fortuitous breaks and opponents that enabled them to get that far to begin with. Better to have loved and lost than to never to have loved at all, that’s what I say.
If I were Tom Brady, this would be one of those moments when I’d tell my wife to just shut up.
Still, it never fails to impress just how many people the Super Bowl attracts on TV. Truly amazing. I can tell you there were a lot of parties around our subdivision yesterday – streets lined on both sides with cars all over the place.
Did anyone really think a halftime show featuring the ultimate media whore Madonna would go off without any kind of controversy? I mean, it’s gotten so that if no one takes that golden opportunity to shock, that in and of itself is a shock.
I still find it hard to believe that American popular music has gotten so banal, lifeless, and tuneless that they drag an ’80s and ’90s has-been like Madonna out to do a halftime show. I mean, there has to be some current talent out there worth a 10-minute Super Bowl performance, don’t you think? Not that anyone really cares, I’m guessing. Me, I think a halftime show by Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, or Alan Jackson or Reba McIntyre would be pretty cool. Of course, the problem is that none of them is likely to toss an f-bomb or make some lewd or crude gesture, which would appear to defeat the whole purpose of halftime, doesn’t it?
Doug:
That’s a good point you make in your
Superbowl aftermath. Like Jerry Callahan said
if Welker caught the ball and won the Superbowl Brady’s the greatest quarterback in history. But he missed it so he’s a loser.
We are spoiled with are teams here in Beantown.
