Awesome news, if you’re a Beach Boys fan and a fanatic about that special period in time back in 1966-67 when Brian Wilson was sitting on top of the world after “Good Vibrations” and expanding his muse far, far beyond the confines of Pendleton-shirted surf and hot rod music the band had come to be known for.
While I’m fairly certain this release will be primarily welcomed by aficianados who indeed want to hear, say, how the tambourine track on “Good Vibrations” sounds away from the rest of the song, or how “Cabinessence” sounded without vocals, still, as a reminder of just how far Wilson was ahead of everyone at the time – including The Beatles – it is a long overdue. No one – and I mean no one – was composing music like this, or this, back in 1967 before anyone had even heard of Sgt. Pepper.
It’ll be interesting to see if any of the tracks on this new release provide any opportunities for updates to my own SMiLE CD carved together through bootlegs and tracks from Brian’s own release back in 2006. Can’t wait to see. It’s just great that some incredible – and important – lost music from 45 years ago is finally making it to legal marketplace.
oh how exciting…will be getting this one for sure.
