We’ve lived here for more than seven years and I can’t recall a day as near as cold as this one was. We only made it up to 43 degrees today, with a wind that really cut through you. Very unusual for around here – typically when it gets cold it’s because it’s so dead calm. Even right now I can hear the wind howling outside, and we have a hard freeze warning up. I covered a few of my favorite bushes and plants, but you can’t cover everything and expect them to stay covered – especially with this wind. So everyone’s gonna have to fend for themselves, survival goes to the fittest.
The locals are really freaking out about the cold, it really is that unusual for around here. Our heat’s been on most of the day, which I can’t remember ever happening around here – even in those chilly early weeks of January. I feel bad for the golfers about to tee it up for the Waste Management Phoenix Open (a horrible name for a golf tournament, BTW); they’re gonna freeze their asses off tomorrow and Friday – especially those teeing off early. Hopefully the weekend will warm up a little.
There will be no nightcap out on the patio tonight, I can assure you of that. So I guess I’ll just have to let my thoughts wander to places and sounds that are more suitable to my travelin’ bones…
