You don’t think Boston Red Sox GM Theo Epstein hasn’t been firing on all burners this off-season? With the Rangers signing of third baseman Adrian Beltre all but official, consider this from the Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham (my boldings):
The Red Sox turned Beltre, Victor Martinez, three prospects and their own first round pick into Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and four draft picks. Beltre and Martinez would have cost them at least $27 million in 2011. Gonzalez and Crawford will get $26.3 million.
So let me get this straight (and assuming, of course the injury factors notwithstanding), for all intents and purposes the Red Sox have replaced Beltre with Kevin Youkilis (a natural third baseman in the minors) and replaced Kevin Youkilis with Adrian Gonzalez. And in doing so, four excellent opportunities to replenish the prospects you gave away, all at about the same cost for 2011. That, my friends, is what they call a haul.
I can’t wait to see what Terry Francona’s plans are for the lineup this year. Me? I like Ellsbury (CF), Crawford (LF), Pedroia (2B), Gonzalez (1B), Youkilis (3B), Ortiz (DH), Drew (RF), Saltamacchia/Varitek (C), Scutaro/Lowrie (SS).
I’ve never understood the media’s fascination with Brett Favre and his massive ego. The guy should have hung them up when he was bounced from the starting spot at Green Bay. Some people know how to go out winners, Favre blew that chance years ago and turned a fine career into a running joke.
I don’t care who you are, to not be able to finish a round of golf in five hours tells me President Obama is as lousy a golfer as he is a president. And I don’t think a president should be out playing golf in shorts and a shirt without a collar. You can tell a lot about a guy by the way he dresses on a golf course – Barack Obama’s choice of clothes says two words: “no class”.
Rob and I were joking a while back about the Pats and the Saints in the Super Bowl, wouldn’t that be a sight to see? I mean, who knows, just might happen. I’ll bet Liuzza’s throws one hell of a Super Bowl party, don’t they Rob?
The local sports talk shows out here are in endless debate as to whether the sorry Arizona Cardinals should work a deal for Donovan McNabb next year. Sure, the Redskins don’t really have a need for him anymore, but why would you put a veteran QB already on the downside of his career into the middle of a franchise in chaos? Makes no sense to me.
Say, has the hockey season started yet?
Cats more manipulative than previously thought? Not that it has anything to do with sports, but after having cats I absolutely believe this article.
