The pool is 92 degrees, but compared to the air temperature (102 at 10 PM) it felt almost cool. Almost. Because there’s nothing here in Gilbert, Arizona today that has been cool – ever. Not when it’s heat advisory season.
How hot was it today? So hot that Tracey needed gloves to touch the steering wheel of her car driving home. Accuweather says it got to 110, but my neighbor’s thermometer facing south on his patio registered 114, so there was some serious heat out there. There’s an adage out here that you know the temperature is over 110 by the increased number of disabled cars by the side of the road. Driving up to Scottsdale today, I counted six; my wife counted four on her way home from work. These really hot temps are murder on worn tires, and the majority of people I saw were changing tires. On the side of a busy interstate, in temps like that, is never a good thing.
Congratulations to Paul Goydos, that 59 at the John Deere Classic was some kind of shootin’. On the back nine, dude only had 8 putts and birdied all but one hole. That’s a great story – that is, until I do the same at The Ledges on Goodboys Invitational Saturday a week from tomorrow.
On the other side of the coin you have Michelle Wie, a target of abuse in years past, now I don’t really care much about her one way or the other. She shot an eye-popping 82 in the opening round of the U.S. Women’s Open today. Wow. It’s hard to be virtually washed up when you’re only 20 years old.
Barack Obama’s presidency continues to draw gasps of amazement in terms of its own incompetence and stupidity. It seems like every day you hear something that just makes you shake your head in wonder how at this complete boob got elected. Yesterday it was the head of NASA saying that President Obama’s instructions to him were, foremost, that his agency “find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science, math, and engineering.”
Well, I’ll give them this – the ability to bring down two skyscrapers that took years to build in the span of a few hours with unarmed jet airliners filled with innocent civilians is some scientific accomplishment…

Leaving this morning for 10 days to attend my second Sundance ceremony…time for my spiritual nourishment by way of singing Lakota prayers, dancing, supporting the actually dancers, being in the woods (tent camping) with some amazing people and connecting with the sacred ground where this ceremony has been held for now the 19th year. Get to send up as many prayers as want/need and know that this is a sacred and special time. Sundance is the most sacred of the 7 sacred ceremonies for the Lakota. Keep cool, like that is possible in AZ,stay calm..all will be well. Mitakiya Oasin (for all my relations)

Thanks Jana – I know you’ll have a great time! If you want to toss a couple-two-three prayers my way I won’t mind. 🙂
