Not going to do much today, perhaps I’ll install a misting system on my patio. But the 4th of July has always meant to me the height of summer, seeing fireworks as a kid with large crowds and mosquitoes biting me everywhere.
Tracey and I will defintely make it a point to watch “Gettysburg” – it’s a July 4 tradition in our house, and one of my all-time favorite movies. Good to remember the kind of stock this country used to come from.
Fellow Goodboy Ben “The Funny Guy” Andrusaitis will have a barbecue on his lakeside patio, then settle in to watch the pyrotechnics all around the lake – seen it, done it, been there – it’s a ball.
I remember one July 4th while we were living in Louisville when our good friend John Pippy was staying with us, and walking out to Hurstbourne Lane to watch of what you could see of the fireworks over the Ohio River.
Wow. Just writing these words it’s amazing to me all the places we’ve lived in. Louisville and Milford, Massachusetts seem like a dream to me.
The one place Id love to experience the 4th of July is in Newport, Rhode Island. I’ll bet they do it up right there.
Two links for July 4th: the first, a speech given by one of my all-time favorite Presidents, Calvin Coolidge (Hat tip: NRO’s Corner blog), who, incidentally, was born on the 4th. The second, a great video I know you’ll enjoy.
Happy 4th of July, America! Don’t let Barack Obama or his socialist cronies succeed in their mission to destroy the America we have come to know and love. Don’t believe me? Otherwise, they’ll be nothing left to celebrate!
