Mark the day, May 8.
Why? Because summer has officially arrived here at The Great White Shank abode in the Valley of the Sun. Three days of 90+ temperatures finally killed the petunias in the front and back planters for good, and pushed the pool temperature to 80 degrees – a perfect temperature for the first dip of the year. A trip to the local nursery and we’ve got new summer flowers in the planters, a trip to the refrigerator and we’re sipping on the first Caguamas of 2010.
Summer is here. I’ll let my all-time favorite surf band, The Sandals, welcome it as only they can.

Pool temp: 80 degrees
I have already had my first Caguama. I am jealous of the temps you are having…although it is a gorgeous spring, warm days/cool nights, I am ready for pool hot days.

Thanks Jana, dying to hear the latest on your water issues!

Been doing the “dunk of the month” this year. The water temps off the northeast coast have varied from a crisp 37 in Jan-Feb to a comfortable 48 in April. So I’m happy that your pool finally reached a “tolerable” 80. You should change your handle to The Great White Guppy.

A comfortable 48, huh Goose? That’s the record low for our pool. Last New Year’s I took a dip in 55-degree water, that was pretty frigid. Call me a guppy if you like, it’s easy for a goose to tolerate 48 degreee water, think of all that down you have!
