It’s a little chilly here tonight in the Valley of the Sun – a continuation of what has been a chilly (for around here) week. The pool had made it all the way up to a hopeful 61 last Sunday, but these last few days have knocked some sense back into it, and it has dropped ten degrees – so there won’t be swimming any time soon, I can tell you that!
But my Goodboys mates and friends and family up in the Northeast don’t have to weep for me – I know what kind of a winter you’ve been having, and it looks as if there’s more on the way.
Man, I’m jealous – I read about a “Groundhog Day Monster Storm”, and as a New Englander I long to be in the middle of it all! Get your milk, bread, and candles fast!
Instead I’ll probably sit at the Tiki Bar and enjoy a Pusser’s Painkiller #2 in short sleeves and gaze at the green grass and lovely bougainvillea. Life’s a bitch, I’ll tell you…
But I digress.
Tonight I’m really longing for the Mississippi River, Grand Isle, Louisiana, and/or cocktails at the Royal Omni New Orleans after dinner at Mulate’s or Tujague’s – hey, why not all three? – so I’ve got a great mix of music on the CD tray to bring a little of the Deep South into this dusty desert mausoleum. Here’s what I’m listening to:
Song Of The Mississippi – a Natural Encounters CD
Danse! by Tout Les Soir – a damned fine Louisiana dance band
Zydeco Jambalaya – a good mix of modern Zydeco sounds
The soundtrack to the movie “The Big Easy”
The soundtrack to the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou”
Just dreaming of a trip south and east tonight…
“Instead I’ll probably sit at the Tiki Bar and enjoy a Pusser’s Painkiller #2 in short sleeves and gaze at the green grass and lovely bougainvillea. Life’s a bitch, I’ll tell you…”
You’re a cruel, cruel, man. 🙂

Hmphhhhh! I sit in 9 degrees tonight…but at least I have power. My parents are “trapped” here and did get their kitties over here. No word when power will be restored. The entire state is a disaster area…trees down everywhere, coated with an inch of ice…There were/are 806,000 in the entire state without power. This time I lucked out. So, sit there in your shirt sleeves and enjoy yourself. It’s a mess here.

There are times when I really miss winter. But the winter of 2008-09 isn’t one of them. And just wait until spring comes with the flooding that will undoubtedly come with it. What a mess…
