OK I think I’m finally ready to leave behind the 20th century and go 21st, at least photography-wise. Anyone out there have an idea for a good, serviceable digital camera that doesn’t cost a lot? I’m not looking to become an Ansel Adams here, just something to have when the occasion arises and a camera is needed.
Like Tuesday, when the Pool Guru shows up and gets my filter settings back to the way they oughta be – right now, as a result of our fiddling and fussing our filter is nothing but an oval-shaped conversation piece in the backyard. Rather than write how it looks, I figure I’ll just take a picture of it. The Great White Shank may be dumb, but he ain’t stupid.
Any and all advice welcome!
Things you’re looking for are megapixels (5.0 or above), battery life (One with a rechargeable battery pack), zoom capability, and one that feels good in your hands (If it’s heavy or awkward to hold, you won’t be able to steady it). You should be able to find one that meets all of those standards for about $300 or so. I recommend the Canon Rebels or Powershots.

Thanks Rob – I told Tracey you’d come through. We’re just now starting to lay out plans for a trip your way early-mid next year (God willing!). Can’t wait to have her meet you.

You ought to aim for French Quarter Fest. It’s April 17-19. That festival is free and is a blast. We try to go every year. The music is free and all of the great restaurants have booths set up where you can sample some of their signature dishes for a couple of bucks a pop.

I have two Olympus cameras…one is a bit larger and that is the one I use to download onto the computer. The other is a very small one which I toss in my purse/pocket for point and shoot times and it has a fabulous video feature as well. It depends if you want a view finder/screen option or just the screen option. I like having both. And yes, the mega pixels and recharable battery is a must.
