Two mourning doves, hopping on a wall
Doin’ the ‘wild thing’, heeding nature’s call
I watch through the cactus, see it all unfold
Been that way since the days of old — Ancient Chinese proverb
How can you tell that Spring has sprung here in Arizona? We are inundated with mourning doves.
Doves cooing in the morning and the late afternoon.
Sometimes in mono, sometimes in stereo, sometimes, heck, in glorious quadrophonic sound!
Doves on tops of the houses all around us.
Doves flitting overhead from wall, to housetop, to treetop; their happy whistling sound heard everywhere as they land and take off.
It’s an amazing thing to behold. And it’s not just doves – birds are in nesting mode everywhere, it seems. All except, that is, those flying rats, a.k.a., pigeons, who seem to be just hanging as usual on the house across the street.
So hold on, dear friends in the Northeast, Spring is slowly but surely working its way towards you!
