Thinking out loud, to no one in particular…
* Is it just me, or does the idea of NFL teams giving players like Eric Steinbach and Nate Clements 6+ year mucho million contracts to play a violent and physical game border on lunacy?
* If I live to be 1000 years old, I will never understand the attraction of NASCAR. If I wanted to watch loud cars go round and round in a circle endlessly, I’d just park my carcass by the rorary where the Alewife Brook Parkway meets Concord Avenue in Cambridge, MA.
* Tiger Woods’ impressive streak of seven consecutive PGA event victories dies when, as he said, he failed to read a ball mark on that short putt he missed in his match against Nick O’ Hearn. I know how you feel, Tiger – I’m still hurting from that time I did the same thing and had to settle for a 109 at The Captains Port Course.
* Dice-K’s debut against Boston College yesterday (2 innings, 3 Ks, 25 pitches, 19 for strikes) was impressive, even if it was against a college team. I liked what I saw: he works fast and throws strikes – a pitcher after my own heart. I know Denton was pretty psyched about it.
* R.I.P. Dennis Johnson. Your contributions to the Celtics’ last great championship era will never be forgotten.
* Just wondering – has the NHL season started yet?
* Shhh – don’t tell anyone. The Great White Shank’s hot pick to take it all at this year’s NCAA Men’s basketball tournament? Why, none other than the Butler Bulldogs.
* Though the snow was falling fast and furiously in the Northeast on Friday, that didn’t stop reservations and tee times for the 2007 Goodboys Invitational golf tournament from being secured from the lovely Sue at The Mariner Motor Lodge. Only 139 days to go, lads!
* Say, that reminds me… the question remains: where is Possum?
That Clements deal doesn’t border on lunacy. It crossed that threshold with a few miles to spare. I think if you’re going to pay that kind of money to a player, he can’t just be someone who can play his position. He has to be a game-changer. Clements is not a game-changer. Looks like the Pats made a good move with Thomas. I think he’ll be a good fit there. With so many teams so far under the cap this season, lunacy figured to be the order of the day but I think the Bucs and 49ers went above and beyond the order.

You’re right, Rob. ‘Course, now everyone is sitting on the edges of their seats wondering who the Raiders are gonna find for a QB this year. The Bucs must be happy the Raiders are around – if they weren’t they’d be the saddest team in professional football.
