Well, just as I predicted, John Kerry folded like a cheap bridge table yesterday and (sort of) apologized for his remarks. Like NRO’s Jim Geraghty believes, however, and as I said the other day, it was already too late, for the damage had already been done.
Want proof?
Here’s an image destined to last in people’s minds longer than any kind of weasely piece of verbal spin the senator from Massachusetts can concoct.
BTW, Powerline has some info behind the Minnesota National Guard’s 1st Brigade Combat Team responsible for that marvelous photo. All prayers and blessings for them and for others like them, who have put their lives on the line for a cause far greater than that behind Senator Kerry’s self-serving apology.
Expect this picture to be circulated and re-circulated around the Internet in the coming days, and deservedly so – it is priceless.
Yeah, that picture sure influenced the election, didn’t it?
You clueless Republicans make me sick. So many problems in this country, and you choose to focus on a botched joke made by a man whose jockstrap most of you couldn’t carry, a decorated veteran.
I can’t wait until the next Congress starts issuing subpoenas to people.

Thanks for the comment, Al. We welcome all political views here at the ‘Nation. Actually, if you check my post, I didn’t really focus on the joke, just the politician who made it. Whether you are an admirer of the good Senator or not, you’d have to admit every time he opens his mouth he does his party little good.
In such a close election – and the vote totals certainly showed it ended up that way – he should have known better and stuck to the talking points and avoided speaking off the cuff. He, more than anyone else, given what happened in 2004, should have learned from his prior experiences that he gets in trouble speaking extemporaneously. And that’s the point I was making.
While you and I obviously disagree politically, I like your tag – an Alan Jardine BB fan?
