Ah, the beginning of October. What a wonderful time of year as the crisp cool mornings start to move into SouthWestern Canada. Like the Great White Shank, I have begun a week of holidays (vacation) today, inaugurating them with a 40 km. bike ride. While Hawaii (GWS’s destination of choice) may be a better place for year round cycling, we are actually going to attempt to continue with our daily rides this year, even as winter rolls in.
This idea is no doubt supported by the several hundred dollars worth of apparel we HAD to purchase over the weekend in order to continue this noble pursuit. If El Niño truly does live this year, as forecasters have said, then we should be able to achieve our goal.
Since last May we have had an outstanding run in Southern British Columbia; it has been very warm with very little rain, and the trend is set to carry on, apparently. The thought of having to end our daily commutes because of rain, sleet, or fog seem too unfathomable to even contemplate. Please El Niño, you must stay for a few more months because the outdoors simply feels so good!!
