Things in today’s news that simply make you shake your head…
The KKK holds a rally at Gettysburg. Don’t these clowns understand the sacrifice of humanity that took place on this hallowed ground, largely over an issue this country is still struggling to put to bed. You’d think they’d have better things to do on a Labor Day weekend, like, you know, grill hamburgers, cut the lawn, etc. …
So first responders in Appleton, Wisconsin will now carry oxygen masks for pets. Geez, I sure hope this doesn’t either: a) slow them down from rescuing – oh, I don’t know – human beings, or b) adding an extra human-sized mask or two to their kit. Just more evidence of the creeping “PetSmartification” of America, where people want their pets raised to the status of human beings – you know, like being able to take them into the stores, the office, etc. Look, I love our pets and consider them a part of the family as much as anyone else would, but I think the guy who came up with this idea is nuts.
So, Sen. Hillary Clinton has a disapproval rate of ‘only’ 44%, and 53% of polled Independents say they’d never vote for her. That’s nothing – wait til’ people see just how shrill and slow on her feet she really sounds in a televised national debate format. The Dems need to face the facts: outside of a Senate seat in New York, the woman is virtually unelectable; Bill Clinton she’s not, and they’ll find that out over the course of the 2008 primary season.
“As residents work to rebuild their lives and homes a year after Hurricane Katrina, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will be frequent visitors to the city observing the progress.” So says this AP story from statesman.com. I’m sure the whole city is breathing a huge sigh of relief today…
A happy and safe Labor Day weekend to everyone!
Just saw a bit on the Today show re Brad Pitt in New Orleans and, maybe I was taken in, but looks like he’s really doing some good.

It’s not all personal publicity with Pitt. He’s trying to get a movie made in New Orleans and looks like it will happen. If he gets a little positive pub out of the deal, good for him.
